Most rereleases come with extras, and this is no exception.
As a bonus for the Metroid Prime Trilogy version, we get to purchase Extras at a cost of the tokens we pick up just for playing the game. There are some things you only unlock or tokens you only gain by doing specific things such as beating the game on a higher difficulty or getting a certain clear percentage. As these are outside of the game itself, for the most part, it’s taking a look at art made for the game. I enjoy seeing these things, even though I know looking at them takes a huge chunk of time out of what I can actually spend playing the game. It’s my hope that I’m not the only one appreciating them.
In most Metroid games, the X-ray Visor/Beam/What-have-you is nearly useless if you actually know the game well. Not so here! No matter how well you know the game, you still can’t reliably target ghostlike foes without using this visor. It also helps significantly with any sort of moving invisible platform. You don’t need to use it for that sort of thing, as your Power Beam will still splash against them, but it’s a lot easier to just see a platform than guess and test with your arm cannon.
