The Busy Firehouse

At least editing these videos is easy.

My rule of thumb for editing most things is along the lines of “include everything, but speed up anything that isn’t critical.” “Critical” items are usually along the lines of boss fights and cutscenes. In rare instances (at least for the games I’ve been playing) I’ll cut things out, though cutting things out is more likely to happen if I get game overs or start playing something like Pokemon with a lot of time where I’m just grinding levels and there’s (almost no) risk. I can’t cut out the travel time in Metroid because that’s often when I get to search for more minor items. Anyway, this game only has text, no cutscenes, and the vast majority of the time is just hosing stuff down. Doing the time lapse on the hosing is really easy. The text even comes at regular intervals (20%), so it’s a piece of cake to figure out when it is.

As of the end of last year, I decided to start cutting up my weekday streams into half-hour videos. I’ve seen mild channel growth because of that, but it’s not so drastic (or consistent) that I feel like I should also do that for Sunday streams, or at least for Power Wash Simulator. Chuggaaconroy recently gave a bit of advice on one of his videos: he always makes sure something important gets done in each video. I can’t really do that with Power Wash Simulator, but if I feel like I can do that with other games on Sunday, I’ll probably start splicing those up, too. It’ll really depend on what games I play.

Speaking of video editing, you might notice that this video (and blog post) has gone up far, far past the stream date, unlike with the Bananza video from the week prior. The reason is that, as of the end of Bananza, I decided to start posting my videos in chronological order once more. (That wasn’t a concern while I was making longer videos from streams, but my backlog of videos grew amazingly once I started chopping things up.) Keeping track of the order of things is easy, since I write these blog posts in editing order, which is also in stream order. I just hope the fact that the videos are going up long after stream date doesn’t cause problems for others. At least it makes it easy to have a video and blog post every day.
