Game Plans

Sundays:

A set of games I can play while watching the other streamers on the multistream and interacting with chat. Must fit the format of shorter (2-hour) streams.

  • Super Mario (current: Odyssey)

  • Picross S (when I need a break: S2)

  • Power Wash Simulator (between games)

Choice Games:

A set of games I really want to play, whether by express choice or a sense of obligation. Twitch viewers can populate this with a points redemption. Presently, I am finishing series that I started earlier and then gained further access to series entries after finishing the set.

This set is currently on weekdays.

  • The Legend of Zelda (current: Ocarina of Time 3D: Master Quest)

  • Pokemon
  • Wonder Boy
  • Xenoblade (on deck: X Definitive Edition)

Poll Games:

A set of games selected by viewer poll. I try to run entire series before moving to the next.

This set is currently on Saturdays.

  • Final Fantasy (current: Romancing SaGa 2)
  • Metroid (on deck: Zero Mission)

Event Games/Etc.:

Games and other streams voted on by the community for certain events. Most often, this is for annual events such as my Twitch Affiliate anniversary and my streaming anniversary, or as a break between finishing game series. There can be more of these if Twitch subscription milestones are hit.

  • Between Choice series: model building
  • First Saturday monthly: Hollow Knight Randomizer

CLASSIC PLATFORMING ON A TINY SCREEN

Donkey Kong Land - https://youtu.be/9zhAnS4ao1Y

Some of those levels are significantly harder for me than others. That last one took 50 minutes!

Me at 8:50 (stream ends at 9): I'll just do one last level to round out the stream.

Me at 9:40: Can I finish this level already!?

I am having fun with this game, but as the video only includes when I make progress, you often see me at the tail end of getting rather frustrated with the hard levels. The final level for today is a great example in many ways. I do state it in a section that is edited out: they did a good job making the level. It just wasn't a mechanic of which I was terribly fond. They took the time to introduce the new mechanic, with a relatively safe area in which to play around with it. Then they gradually introduce new enemies and setups that restrict the player and make things harder, culminating in the last section where you need to carefully maneuver the platform in a tight space with a few enemies flying around. They even make the KONG letters easy to get (or straight up impossible to miss) so you can save afterwards without needing to take on any special tough challenges. Overall, a good level. I just wish it didn't take forever.

Also, the camera on the game is impressive. And makes me glad I'm playing it on the Switch's output rather than the represented screen. I thought I would have the same problem as with Metroid 2's rather zoomed-in screen, but the game seems to show just as much around the Kongs as in the SNES games. I do remember my comment about how playing Tropical Freeze after the others felt so much better, and it definitely holds true here as well, especially since falling off the screen is decided immediately rather than falling. You don't get to see the bottomless pit: you just die.
