Game Plans

Sundays:

A set of games I can play while watching the other streamers on the multistream and interacting with chat. Must fit the format of shorter (2-hour) streams.

  • Super Mario (current: Odyssey)

  • Picross S (when I need a break: S2)

  • Power Wash Simulator (between games)

Choice Games:

A set of games I really want to play, whether by express choice or a sense of obligation. Twitch viewers can populate this with a points redemption. Presently, I am finishing series that I started earlier and then gained further access to series entries after finishing the set.

This set is currently on weekdays.

  • The Legend of Zelda (current: Ocarina of Time 3D: Master Quest)

  • Pokemon
  • Wonder Boy
  • Xenoblade (on deck: X Definitive Edition)

Poll Games:

A set of games selected by viewer poll. I try to run entire series before moving to the next.

This set is currently on Saturdays.

  • Final Fantasy (current: Romancing SaGa 2)
  • Metroid (on deck: Zero Mission)

Event Games/Etc.:

Games and other streams voted on by the community for certain events. Most often, this is for annual events such as my Twitch Affiliate anniversary and my streaming anniversary, or as a break between finishing game series. There can be more of these if Twitch subscription milestones are hit.

  • Between Choice series: model building
  • First Saturday monthly: Hollow Knight Randomizer

KING K. ROOL'S SECOND LOSS

Donkey Kong Land - https://youtu.be/B2MdcApqbqw

Great platforming. A little too hard.

I said in the last post that I enjoyed the long but hard level. The same goes for just about every level in World 4, with the note that they're not all insanely hard and just might have some tough parts. I also like how the world is laid out like it's the setting of the original Donkey Kong. I called it New York City during its first level, but if we're going by Super Mario Odyssey, then it's New Donk City. Fitting setting for the last world!

(Where are the rats and flying pigs in SMO?)

Collecting the KONG letters in order to save is both a plus and a minus. It's a plus in that you can save way more often in this game than in any of the SNES games (that I remember, anyway). It's a minus in that you actually have to be somewhat decent at the game in order to save in most cases, which is the exact opposite of the player that needs to save. Having one level where the KONG letters are in it four times over kind of threw me off; I didn't know if the last set was actually the one for saving until I beat the level.

Fittingly, the final boss was the only one that was actually kind of a challenge. I am quite glad that they automatically start you with both Kongs for bosses, because he would have been way harder if I had to do it without getting hit. I wasn't all that concerned about getting a game over, however, since I saved right before him. Maybe that contributed to how relaxed I felt with the fight, in addition to the fact that his pattern was ridiculously easy to learn.

Overall, I enjoyed the game, though having savestates greatly improved it over having to re-beat levels if I didn't collect KONG. I'm a little surprised they made a sequel (let alone two) but the series still deserved the entries it got.
