Game Plans

Sundays:

A set of games I can play while watching the other streamers on the multistream and interacting with chat. Must fit the format of shorter (2-hour) streams.

  • Super Mario (current: Odyssey)

  • Picross S (when I need a break: S2)

  • Power Wash Simulator (between games)

Choice Games:

A set of games I really want to play, whether by express choice or a sense of obligation. Twitch viewers can populate this with a points redemption. Presently, I am finishing series that I started earlier and then gained further access to series entries after finishing the set.

This set is currently on weekdays.

  • The Legend of Zelda (current: Ocarina of Time 3D: Master Quest)

  • Pokemon
  • Wonder Boy
  • Xenoblade (on deck: X Definitive Edition)

Poll Games:

A set of games selected by viewer poll. I try to run entire series before moving to the next.

This set is currently on Saturdays.

  • Final Fantasy (current: Romancing SaGa 2)
  • Metroid (on deck: Zero Mission)

Event Games/Etc.:

Games and other streams voted on by the community for certain events. Most often, this is for annual events such as my Twitch Affiliate anniversary and my streaming anniversary, or as a break between finishing game series. There can be more of these if Twitch subscription milestones are hit.

  • Between Choice series: model building
  • First Saturday monthly: Hollow Knight Randomizer

KONG OF THE MINES

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD - https://youtu.be/w9uTuEIqGG8

Every world they find new ways to make the levels harder than before.

My streak is broken! 14, 14, 13. Okay, I only dropped by one level, but still. I was tempted to keep going, but, well, it was after 9 and my voice was shot. Best to save that boss fight for next time.

The more I play of this game, the more I feel like the developers weren't sure they'd get a shot at making another one, so they just poured every idea they had into this game. Still no swimming levels, so that's one area that Tropical Freeze definitely did well. (Water levels are not a highlight of DKC but they are actually fun, usually.) Also, having an entire world of vehicle levels back to back: great for time trials, a little exhausting otherwise. The one mercy is that it took until the end of world 5 to have another super-stressful level with that Muncher Marathon.

I made more use of that IGN guide to collectibles in world 5 than in all the other worlds. Part of that was that I missed a lot of collectibles. They're getting cleverer with hiding those. Another part is that I was doing things a way that worked, not necessarily the right way. Embarrasingly, the first time I got the O in Muncher Mayhem was the right way, but since I died immediately afterwards I just completely failed to notice what I'd done: pound the ground and bounce off a mushroom. Instead I spent the next ten minutes trying to bounce off the spider. I did it exactly once in that time. I'm glad I thought, "There has to be a better way," and looked at the guide. That saved me a lot of time. (It's faster to go off the spider but way less reliable.)

And for the K levels, wow, they're getting hard. A good rule of thumb is that the easiest K level is harder than the hardest non-K level, and all levels increase in difficulty as you progress through the game. In practice, that's not precisely true, but that last K level took me 45 minutes and I get the feeling my sixth stream will bring me down to the wire on getting through every level.
