Legend of Mana Remake - https://youtu.be/9B0OlV3qBLU

I take back that I've not seen anything of this game before. I remember the ads now.

First impression: this game feels old. It has more colors than Final Fantasy Legend III but the story in that game made more sense. I think, maybe, this one is just supposed to be that you explore the various realms available and eventually the end shows up? I noticed that whenever you leave an area, a sproutling (that's probably the Mana Tree) shows up on the loading screen and gradually grows.

I am enjoying the large number of name references to previous games. None of the games share a world, as far as I can tell, but they all have similar naming conventions and a few similar story mechanics. However, this game has utterly failed to explain why I'm traveling. I'm sort of just doing it because I can.

Graphically, it's an improvement over the original versions of the previous games, but for being a remake it sure didn't change much. I think the (-) accessed menu is the only change, besides possibly autosaves. (The generous autosaves are welcome. I haven't really needed them, because the game isn't that hard, but I like that I don't need to feel paranoid about saving.)

And for combat, I like the system. Since most weapons upgrades come from random drops, it encourages trying out other weapons. I might be using less variety in the action commands than the game wants me to use, but some of those upgrades are great. And I like that there is no menuing in combat. I just have to remember which button does what.
