Hey, all! New games from now on get a blog post. It won't be long, just my impressions on the game after editing each video.

First item: this game is quiet. I don't know if that's something I can blame on in-game settings because those usually start at max. The image below shows the audio profile for a cutscene with dialogue.

At the same scale (different cutscene length, but same vertical and horizontal scale), this is the audio profile for Trials of Mana cutscenes with dialogue before I intentionally turned down the recording volume.

And then after.

When I talk, the audio profile is usually pretty obvious, because I'm louder than the game. (The range for that is between the Before image for Trials of Mana and filling 80% of the black space.) But it doesn't need to be this obvious; this level of difference makes it hard for viewers to set their volume. I'll need to turn up the game audio.

Second item, this game's only invisible walls seem to be the ones that prevent your characters from falling off cliffs. There hasn't been any exploration blocking yet, possibly because the game's areas are very small; there's no "hub" area that I've come across, and so every exploration towards a story area is "where you need to go next." Again, I am reminded of Crisis Core Reunion, though even that game had "I should go back" invisible walls at times.

As far as characters and story go, World of Final Fantasy captured Snow and Lightning pretty well. (What's with all these protagonists being named after weather?) Snow is an unintentional goofball (very focused on his goal) and Lightning is very serious at all times. Also, I think we have our Cid, at least in piloting terms. I liked how Lightning kept trying to take control of the ship from him; she seems to think she's better at everything than everyone else, which has been mostly true, though only mostly. Sazh probably won't get another chance to show off for a while.

And of course, the game's spectacle so far feels like something I'd see in a classic Star Wars film, hence the video title. However, as we move away from the people trying to kill our characters, we'll probably see less of that for a while. (I don't honestly know. I've seen bits and pieces of this game, not a full playthrough.)
