THE LEGENDARY DRAGONBORN
Skyrim - https://youtu.be/Lc0lG1b7ewQ
As I said in the intro, this isn't my first foray into Skyrim. However, my greatest story progress prior to this time was only to the point of getting the quest to fetch the horn. I don't think I ever slayed more than one dragon. That said, I've never been concerned about a time limit before, either.
There is SO MUCH text in this game. I feel sorry for the translators. It must have taken ages. Luckily for the English folks, this game didn't come out of Japan. I do want to read all those books (or at least most of them) on stream eventually, but a 24-hour stream set was not the time to do that. Instead, I mostly just rushed everything, only looking at book title pages unless I actually needed the contents for something.
As for my build decisions: I thought that if I went with heavy magic, it would mean I didn't have to put too much effort into upgrading my equipment. Which was mostly correct, in the end. (I'm writing all this after finishing the whole weekend event.) However, I didn't realize how quickly I would run through the limited mana pool, and eventually I switched it up to compensate. That said, the short range of Destruction magic is still greater than the range of a melee weapon, which was great for avoiding damage. Most of the time. I decided to use Shock for the majority of the game because I thought the elements mattered for damage purposes and fire would be easier to find resistance against than electricity. That… probably wasn't the case. I probably should have just stuck with fire.
Things I learned this day:
- Magic can run out if that's all you're using for damage. Have a weapon.
- Bows are slow. Have a melee weapon.
- Some foes don't level with you very much. That also means they're tough at low levels. Go around.
- The auto-save only happens when you use a door to a different map. Save at least every hour on the overworld, if not more frequently.
- The save can be used literally anytime after you name your character, even during cutscenes (as this game is like Half-Life and you never lose control) and combat. You probably shouldn't be saving during combat, though. But you should save often.
Losing traversal progress to not saving was definitely the reason I wasn't able to finish within just two days of stream.
