TO THE TOP!

Final Fantasy XIII - https://youtu.be/0GhJVnUiy-s

Was that really a fal'Cie? It seemed kind of easy.

I'm pretty sure that Fang and Vanille referred to the boss of the tower as a fal'Cie, but it didn't act like Barthandelis at all. And it didn't have a recognizable name like Atomos. I mean, I guess it could have been, but… I guess the training I did with the missions was more helpful than I thought? I even got game overs against the basic encounters in the tower…

Thinking about it, the term "Game Over" isn't exactly accurate, is it? It was when introduced, in arcades: if you didn't pay up for a continue, you had to start over again. Your play of the game was, in fact, over. But in modern games like Final Fantasy XIII, you just rewind to before the combat or something like that, and keep going. In a way, that's something that Bloodborne and the like does right: the text is "You Died." It's accurate to what actually happened in the game. The only time that "Game Over" is really accurate anymore is when you're doing something like Steel Soul Mode (in Hollow Knight) or One Life Difficulty (in Ori and the Blind Forest). Maybe I should come up with some other, more accurate text to put on my counter. For future games, I guess. I try to stay consistent within a playthrough.

And for the missions, I don't think I'll be doing them all unless the upgraded weapon introduces a serious power improvement. And I get someone with a little more party survivability in here. Snow is great at keeping himself alive—and drawing aggro—but with no defensive buffs, the party still dies pretty quickly. And I have no idea what to do about the Gigantuar's 10,000 Needles attack. There's no way to get anyone's health that high, and you can't revive as quickly as it can attack twice. I'll still do as many as I can, but don't expect this to be a 100% playthrough.
