TOO MANY LOCKS
Hollow Knight Randomizer - https://youtu.be/Nteu67S7WEM
Okay, that was way too many blockades.
There are a lot of settings and mods that you can use to increase the number of checks. The worst by far is "Grass Rando", where every single piece of grass that you can cut is a check. It adds about 3000 checks to the game. I… probably won't be doing that one ever, especially since I've heard that some pieces of grass are unobtainable (due to being out of bounds). Most of the ones I enabled this time just add walls. Lots and lots of walls.
To be specific, in addition to the basic Randomizer4 checks, I have jelly egg bombs, breakable walls, collapsing floors, Desolate Dive floors, levers, and More Doors keys randomized. The only one of those that doesn't wall me off is jelly egg bombs, which mostly just makes checking things a little riskier and makes the Fog Canyon (particularly that one room) a lot more useful to explore. I think I'll always keep that one. The breakable walls/floors rando is one of the newest of the lot, and I do enjoy it. It adds about 400 checks (so yes, it's roughly half of the checks for my settings). But in combination with the other two, I just feel like I can't hardly go anywhere—and even worse, it's the only one that's inaccurate for the Rando Map Mod in terms of where items are placed. (I had to learn by experiment the real locations of several walls and floors.) If I'm dropping one of these, it might be this one. Randomized levers has been around for a long time, and I feel like More Doors is really cool, though it definitely blocks off the most checks per item. But that might be for the better.
I don't ever want to look up where something is via the log files, though I've done it before in cases where I wasn't certain the logic had been correct. I only did it here because stream had gone more than two hours past the nominal end time, which is much, much longer than it usually takes. (For example, I played another seed since then without More Doors, and despite checking 100% of the locations, it still took less than 8 hours. Each of the Archipelagos only took about 6 hours.) If not for this taking so long, I probably would keep the settings, because for the most part, they were fun. It just took ages, and I wasn't certain it was possible to gain the Shade Cloak, since it's not technically required in order to beat the game. It's just heavily suggested.
