I don’t usually get to use a Phillips head to put models together!
Model-making streams are rare by design: it’s much harder for me to find models I’m interested in making than games I’m interested in playing. I brought up cost as well, and while models do cost more than games in terms of time spent to dollars, at the end of a game you don’t have anything to decorate your place. I do like that about models. I do, however, also have a finite space in which to decorate, so even if I made more models, I’d have to find somewhere to put them all.
I haven’t just gone online searching for model companies: I’ve gotten all the ones I liked recommended to me in some way. UGears and Metal Earth were makers of kits that my parents surprised me with on a couple of Christmases. This one was recommended by Aro, the first person to show up during this stream. If I wanted pure viewership numbers with my stream, I’ve found that model-making is probably the way to go, as they always end up getting more viewers than my video game streams. However, I do still have the concerns noted above. Besides, I do really enjoy the stories that people tell by their games, and I don’t get that by following the instructions of a model-making kit.
After stream, I spent some time looking up model-making things as I’d said during stream. To my surprise, the makers of this kit seem to have completely vanished! I could only find mention of them on a sold eBay listing and a model-making blog written in German. In addition, UGears has exactly two items listed on Throne, and the one that I want can’t be added to the wishlist. (The button is disabled.) The best I could get was a couple of Metal Earth models, which are now added. I generally don’t have much on Throne because realistically, I already have enough of a backlog to stream for years. However, model kits (when available) are probably a good use of the system.
