I Challenge the Dawn!

The Radiance looks like a sunrise, so I thought that was a particularly fitting line.

As of this moment, we have basically all of the lore of Hallownest. There are other things scattered about, but they’re not crucial to the main story. The point of what we’re doing is that the Hollow Knight, the figure we see with long horns in the past and that we fight in the present, was an imperfect seal, because it lacked full mastery of the Void. Specifically, the Void blocks out all emotion, and emotion is what allows the Radiance to cause the Infection that creates such suffering. However, as we saw at the back of the Path of Pain, the Hollow Knight and the King formed a bond (and that bond was of father and son), and this bond allowed the Radiance to break out after however long it’s been since it was originally sealed. However, the Knight (the player character) is able to master the Void because it was rejected. I do not know how it escaped the Abyss, but the fact that it was sealed there in the first place is actually what allowed it to become the perfect sealing entity. Rather than merely sealing, however, we went a step further and obliterated the Radiance altogether.

For a first-time fight, the Radiance is an acceptable challenge. It’s not way, way too hard, nor does it feel like you’re making no progress if you actually upgraded your stuff. My first time through the game got me 104%, so although I had trouble with the fight, it still was only about ten tries, if I recall correctly. Not terrible. Of course, this is far from my first time, and getting it on first try is rather expected. Don’t expect that for the remaining challenges: I don’t usually do them. I’ve given some of them a try or two, but as they never have any items in randomizer, I’ve not had incentive to practice. I feel like Dream No More is the true ending (as do a lot of other people) and will expect that to be proved in Silksong if it’s addressed. I definitely don’t expect the two Godhome endings to be “true endings,” because they’re so insanely difficult to achieve that most players probably haven’t seen them.
