More Emergencies

If it wasn’t an emergency, they wouldn’t call Samus.

Link is the hero who shows up in the hour of need, but Samus is the hero that already knows she’s needed before showing up. It’s a slightly different framing that makes for a world of difference in character interactions and the general feel of the games. Link has downtime to go fishing and play minigames at shooting galleries and the like. Samus is always on the job. She presumably has downtime, but it’s not during the games.

This is the first time I’ve played a game on my 4K monitor (using the passthrough, anyway), and immediately getting thrown into all the action there was pretty drastic. Not to mention I don’t know the controls all that well (no manual in the box, and even after I read the controls it’s still got an adjustment period). The two hours of listening to music did not prepare me for that sort of frantic action, and I hope I’m not missing too much by focusing on scans rather than saving people’s lives. Those people in that first room died really quickly.
